The documentation of individual work steps is essential for quality assurance and process monitoring. This is the only way to check and optimize work processes at the earliest possible stage, which applies not only to large stationary machines and plants, but also to small, mobile work equipment. With the RivSmart, HONSEL has established a mobile battery riveting tool on the market which can now be integrated into an existing production network and digitally networked with the use of RivSmart PLConnect – a further step towards the smart factory.

On the hardware side, the RivSmart PLConnect consists of a RevPi Core 3 by default and can be expanded with I/O modules and/or industrial gateways depending on the customer’s application. On the software side, the system was extended by a software program developed by HONSEL. The RivSmart PLConnect acts as an interface between the mobile riveting tool and the PLC and ensures that all relevant documentation and process data is transferred from the riveting tool. Thus, for example, the number of placed rivets can be correctly recorded, while empty strokes are safely and reliably disregarded. Additional functions include the transmission of error and service messages as well as the mapping and monitoring of job and process data (from the RivSmart device) to a PLC.
