Smart Retail Traffic Analytics

Challenge
Brick-and-mortar stores face a dilemma: While online stores can analyze customer behavior with just a few lines of code, physical visitor tracking requires expensive hardware such as cameras and light barriers. In addition, the data collected must be processed locally or in the cloud.
Previous solutions were often too complex and costly for smaller businesses. However, these analytics are essential for retailers to optimize product placement and advertising spaces.
Security-Max Analytics GmbH specializes in in-store analytics. The company develops simplified solutions tailored for small businesses with minimal hardware and software requirements, quick installation and user-friendly operation.

Solution
Security-Max Analytics developed the Edge Collector 2.0 based on the RevPi Connect. This system collects metadata from edge analytics cameras and transmits it to the cloud. A dual Ethernet interface enables communication with the cloud while seamlessly integrating into the local camera network.

Implementation
The Edge Collector transmits data to the cloud every 15 minutes, buffering it locally in case of connectivity issues to prevent loss. The cloud automatically processes the data and displays it through custom dashboards or reports. The system can detect peak times and incorporate external factors, such as weather data, for deeper insights.
Technologies used:
- RevPi Connect as edge collector
- Dual Ethernet interfaces
- Edge analysis cameras
- Cloud-based data analytics
- Customizable dashboards
- Automatic data buffering
Results & Outlook
This solution enables smaller businesses to leverage professional footfall analytics. Automated data processing and integration of external factors enable retailers to strategically optimize store layouts and product placement.
