Smart Farming

Challenge
The demands on modern agriculture are complex: Production facilities must be precisely controlled, resources used efficiently, while maintaining economic viability. Especially in indoor farming, this requires exact coordination of numerous parameters such as lighting, climate, and irrigation.
Conventional systems are often difficult to operate, inflexible, and cannot be controlled remotely. Integrating various components into a complete system is often complicated. Additionally, solutions must be scalable to keep pace with growing operation sizes. Another challenge is cost pressure: Investment in modern technology must pay for itself within a reasonable timeframe.
US company Growlink specializes in automating hydroponic growing systems. The tech company develops integrated hardware and software solutions that enable indoor farms to be observed, monitored, and controlled from anywhere at any time.

Solution
Growlink uses the RevPi Connect in a customer-specific OEM version as the central controller. Marketed as "Growlink Core," it coordinates all automation systems of a farm. The wireless solution can connect with various expansion modules and be configured as an access point for mobile devices.

Implementation
The Growlink Core controls and monitors all analog and digital I/O modules of the farm. The system controls lighting, heating, ventilation, air conditioning, as well as irrigation and supply systems. A custom image connects the system to the Growlink Core API. High-resolution data is continuously collected and stored in the cloud.
Technologies used:
- RevPi Connect as Growlink Core
- Custom software image
- Wireless communication
- Cloud storage
- Mobile access options
- Analog and digital I/O modules
Results & Outlook
The system enables efficient and sustainable farming with manageable investment costs. Flexible monitoring and control of facilities from any location creates clear competitive advantages. The scalable solution can be adapted to growing operation sizes.
