DIO red power diode

Post by BartekKus »

Hello,

I have problem with powering DIO module which is connected via PiBridge to the RevPi Core 3.

RevPi Core 3 and DIO module X4 plugs are powered from one industrial 24VDC power supply (MDR-60-24) - (1st pin +24VDC, 2nd pin GND, 3rd not-connected, 4th also not connected) both for Core and DIO.
The X2 plug in DIO is powered from the same power supply as above - (1st pin 24VDC, 2nd GND, 3rd GND and 4th 24VDC).
I assume that connections are correct.

The problem is that sometimes, the DIO's power diode glows red and sometimes green - totally randomly. While Core3 power, OUT and IN in DIO glows green all the time. In addition changing digital outputs from 0 to 1 didnt work.

I also successfully configured the Core+DIO setup in PiCtory in the way that after executing piTest -d command i can see both modules active (even when the DIO's power diode glows red).

Any help can be useful :)

Best regards,
Bartek

Hi Bartek,
the red light is signalling a bus error on the PiBridge. I assume that there is an electrical problem with the PiBridge. Please try pressing the connector in firmly. In a test environment we recommend using a DIN rail to mount both devices safely together. best idea is to even screw that DIN rail on a horizontal rack in order to give the Revpi Core a chance to "breathe" (air should be able to flow in at the bottom and flow out at the top). You should not simply place the devices on a table without any fixation.
If this does not help then you might suffer from a hardware problem. and would need to send the device back to KUNBUS.
another hint: You should always connect functional earth terminals of your devices as said in the instructions! Without functional earth connected to the devices their protection against EMV is near to zero! If you do not have a separate earth connection at your power supply then you could at least connect the FE terminal to the GND terminal which would at least protect the 24 V terminal from EMV trouble.

Please also let me know when you have bought the DIO module. We did have a firmware update around June 2017. Modules before this date could suffer from problems with high level EMV interference and we've fixed this with a new firmware. You can update the firmware to the newest version if you suffer from the problems of the old version. There is an instruction on our platform:

Hello,

The problem was solved by reinstalling debian jessie downloaded from shop :)
For testing purposes, so far works fine without functional earth.
