Using Pixel

Post by ddowning1327 »

Hello, I am interested in using this with the Raspberry Pi compiler for Labview which requires the PIXEL OS to be installed on the Pi. Is it possible to do this using your hardware?

PIXEL is a graphical desktop which is included in our jessie image (released yesterday). The Revolution Pi boots to the command line by default because the graphical desktop consumes a significant amount of memory and noticeably prolongs the boot time. You can manually start the desktop with "startx" or boot directly into it (instead of the text console) either by invoking "revpi-config enable gui" or enabling it in the web interface of your RevPi Core.

PIXEL OS is a Linux distribution for x86 PCs (not for the Raspberry Pi) which includes the above-mentioned graphical desktop.

Hi,
Lucas just catched up your statement about Pixel OS. But your primary question is if you can run a LabView Compiler on RevPi. Well, there are Solutions out there for the original Raspberry Pi which could also run on our RevPi - like this one here:
https://www.tsxperts.com/labviewforraspberrypi/
But you must know that such solutions will most likely use the GPIO pin header of the original Raspi for IO. This of course does not work with RevPi as we do not have the pinheader (it would not be compliant to EN61131). But if your LabView applications do only use USB and/or Ethernet connections for IO you might have a good chance to get the above solution running. Let our community hear as soon as you have found a solution because others have asked too in the past (German Forum).
Good luck,
Volker.
