How to Access Chromium on RevPi Connect 5

Post by ETSUENTC4600 »

Hello,
I am in a technical practicum class for my Manufacturing Engineering Technology degree, and our semester project includes using a RevPi Connect Pi to control a tabletop model of a Clean-In-Place system using a central pump, chemical tanks, valves, and sensors to show a fully automated clean-in-place demonstration. We have successfully installed the RevPi on the rail, powered it on, and connected keyboard, mouse, and monitor for programming. Remote programming over the network is not currently a viable option, as the ITS firewall requires specific circumstances in order to be allowed to bypass, so desktop mode programming will be required. We have gotten to the main desktop screen using the startx command and I believe we have got it connected to the university guest wifi network. There is nothing on the main desktop screen, and when we use "sudo apt install chromium", we get the line "chromium is already the newest version." How would we configure the desktop to be able to access the chromium application? Also, NodeRed and CODESYS are two options our professors have given us to use, would either one be better or more suited for this type of application? Also, this is my first post to the forums, so if this is not the correct place for this type of question, please direct me to the right place! Thank you.
