Flashing Buster on Revolution PI

Post by pshansen »

I flashed my Revolution Pi with the current Buster Image via USB.
The first boot after flashing, the unit gets an IP (DHCP) from my router and appears as host RevPi. I can connect via SSH and login with pi/raspberry
I then follow the wizard entering the s/n and MAC from the front.
It shows the summery (default pass, new hostname RevPI<s/n>, MAC etc) and state that a reboot is needed to activate the MAC-address.
But after this reboot it does not seem to connect again.
Shouldn't it just then reappear with the new MAC/hostname and ask for a (new) DHCP IP?

Hi,

yes, you're right. After reboot the RevPi will boot with the new MAC and therefore will get a new IP address from your dhcp server. If your DHCP also notifies the DNS try to connect via the hostname (revpi with serial number, like revpi123)

Thanks for your quick response!

I have access to the router lease list and the unit appears there with the initial MAC(first boot after flash). I can then connect via the leased IP and follow the wizard but then after the next reboot it never appears in the lease list again.
I have tried to reboot the router also.
I have tired to reflash again with the same result.

Do you see any errors if you connect a monitor to the HDMI port?

I don't have a monitor at hand with a mini-hdmi cable.
I have now mounted the flash via USB and looking in the logfiles (/var/log) there is no sign of the new hostname there only the Initial hostname (RevPi)
I would seem the wizard is breaking the system ?

Tried again to flash the Buster Lite image - same result.

My product type is 100102 so I choose "Revolution Pi Core" from the list in the wizard.
Then I enter the serial number and the MAC as printed on the front.
The Wizard writes the summery and I get back to the "pi@RevPi" prompt, from there I reboot.
The unit never connects after that..

Thanks for the screenshots. This will help us to investigate the error (looks like sth. related to RevPi Core 1).

Could you please try an older image (like 2022-01-19-revpi-buster.zip)? You will find all available buster images here:

http://packages.revolutionpi.de/buster/

If it works with the older image, please make sure to pin the kernel to version 4.19 before you update the system via apt-get. You can do this using the following command: sudo apt-mark hold raspberrypi-kernel

For more details refer to the Kernel 5.10 release notes, which can be found in our download section.

Similar problems with 2022-01-19-revpi-buster.zip.
Have rolled back to Stretch which seem to work..
Do you have Stretch lite by the way?
