webpage password not working

Post by sofiene »

i have a brand new RevPi core 3 + and this is the first time i run it
i applied

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

i tried logging to the webpage to configure my DIO module using the webpage password written on the side of the device
a red message is shown saying "please enter valid passwort (min 8 characters, numbers and letters only!)"

please note that the webpage password written on the side of the device is 5 letters long
and the session password is 6 letters long

i cannot reset my system image as i did not backup the system image
and i had already configured my project to run in it
this problem is present in multiple devices that i have

i would appreciate a fast reply as this matter is of utmost urgency
thank you very much

Code: Select all

piSerial -p
This will output the initial password which should have been printed on the sticker. If you haven't changed the password, it should allow you to log in. If the output of "piSerial -p" and the password on the sticker do not match then please let us know.

"piSerial -p" outputs the same session password as the one printed on the side of the device
the problem resides with the second password, the one you enter in the configuration web page

Hello Sofiene,

the web-page password is initially the same as the one you get with 'piSerial' - but can be changed by the user.
I don't know what causes the problems with your web-page password at the moment, but if you can log into your device with a console per SSH or FTP (user: pi, pw: [printed_on_your_device]), it is easy to reset or set the password to a desired value: just open the following file

/var/www/data/login.json

The contents will look something like this:

{"username":"admin","ownPW":"","lastLogin":"2020-03-20 14:40:13"}

Case 01:
If the value after "ownPW" is empty "", like in my example, the web-password matches the device's 'piSerial' password (the one you just used to log into the console with the user 'pi')

Case 02:
If the value after "ownPW" is filled, it cointains an MD5 hash value of a manually set password - you will not be able to re-decode. In this case, either delete the hashed value - resetting the web-password to default, like in Case01, or enter a hashed password you can easily create e.g. here: https://www.md5hashgenerator.com or at many similar 'MD5 creation' sites on the web - and don't forget to save the file afeterwards!

Frank

I have a similar situation, where I can login via SSH session with factory password into device, however webpage login with user admin does not work. I have recently upgraded my RevPi Core 3+ to Bullseye.

Contents of /var/www/revpi/data/login.json:

Code: Select all

{"username":"admin","ownPW":"","lastLogin":""}
Also, piSerial does not return value:

Code: Select all

pi@RevPi32736:/var/www $ sudo piSerial -p
ERROR: Can't open file `/dev/i2c-1': No such file or directory
ERROR: FATAL: Can't get serial number from device
Please advise

Hi

From which version did you upgrade to Bullseye and how?

Looks like the security chip is not initialized. Could you please share the content of dmesg and /boot/config.txt.

Stretch to Bullseye I believe.

I used the image method as outlined in your tutorials:
https://revolutionpi.com/tutorials/imag ... all-jessie

Contents of /boot/config.txt

Code: Select all

# goes off screen, and negative if there is too much border
#overscan_left=16
#overscan_right=16
#overscan_top=16
#overscan_bottom=16

# uncomment to force a console size. By default it will be display's size minus
# overscan.
#framebuffer_width=1280

Re: webpage password not working

Post by hakaies »

Upon further investigation I noticed also that the device did not have the correct ethernet address. I followed the image write procedure again, and it is now functioning. I believe the first time I may have physically rebooted the device rather than issued a 'sudo reboot', and this may have left certain setup tasks incomplete. Thank you for your time.

Re: webpage password not working

Post by nicolaiB »

The above posted /boot/config.txt gave it away: The dtoverlay=revpi-core is missing, so the device did not know which pins to connect to what. Thus nothing really will work (eg. piSerial which relies on the crypto chip). The overlay is usualy set during factory reset which you might omitted with the forced reboot.

Glad that the issue is fixed now.
