H.E.A.T. set out to create a universal energy management system (EMS) that goes far beyond what conventional residential building solutions can do. The vision was a system that performs equally well in industrial and off-grid applications. The requirements were ambitious:

- Simplicity: Fast installation and intuitive operation for project managers.
H.E.A.T. specializes in energy management systems and brings over ten years of experience in the energy sector. The team consists of experts from Qinous, the former battery storage specialist now part of Rolls-Royce Power Systems. With this deep expertise, H.E.A.T. develops smart solutions for grid-connected and off-grid battery storage in commercial, industrial, and infrastructure applications. The goal is clear: reduce capital costs, increase profitability, and ensure long-term operational security.

Solution
The result is the H.E.A.T. Energy Gateway – a local energy management system for demanding applications. The software runs on Revolution Pi or other industrial PC platforms and unifies photovoltaics, storage, generators, and EV charging into one system. What makes it special: New devices can be selected and configured directly through the user interface. Complex programming is now a thing of the past.
Why Revolution Pi? H.E.A.T. needed robust, industrial-grade hardware with flexible connectivity options, especially for I/O. Revolution Pi is compact, DIN-rail compatible, and connects up to 20 endpoints directly through expansion modules. This made it the ideal platform for commercial projects where reliability and value for money matter.

Implementation
The Energy Gateway serves as the intelligent brain of the entire system, continuously re-prioritizing energy flows. Solar power is consistently used first and only curtailed when technically necessary. At the same time, the system intelligently charges and discharges batteries and starts generators only when needed to maximize efficiency. For safety, the control system continuously monitors grid connection limits and reliably prevents overloads.
A decisive advantage is its fully local operation: all core functions run stably even without an internet connection. While weather forecasts or cloud services can be integrated optionally, operational safety remains guaranteed even during internet outages. Through an intuitive web interface, users can manage multiple operating strategies in parallel. The range spans from self-consumption optimization through peak shaving to reduce demand charges to active participation in energy markets.
