The initial device password can be found on the sticker on the side of the RevPi housing. When you log in for the first time, you will be prompted to assign your own password. This password refers to the user pi. The password can be managed with Cockpit. You can also create additional users there.

Note

From the RevPi Bookworm Image (08/2025), after 3 failed login attempts, access is locked for 10 minutes.

After reinstalling the image or performing a factory reset, the password for the user pi is reset to this device password. You will then be prompted to assign your own password again when you log in.

The device password is generated based on the serial number of the Trusted Platform Module (TPM). If the file etc/revpi/factory-reset is not found during the boot process, the script revpi-serial.c regenerates the device password based on the unique serial number of the TPM.
